Sponsor A Widow
Many widows experience injustice, violation, and trauma following the loss of their spouse. Others have no children and have been abandoned to a life of abject poverty.
These widows are often hungry, in need of medical care, and without help are unable to find employment.
Your sponsorship provides each widow with an effective support group, a weekly healthy meal, diet staples such as rice, eggs, oil and flour, microenterprise training such as sewing and tailoring, health check-ups, and where possible assistance in finding employment.
Sponsor a widow and let your compassion birth hope in the heart of a needy widow.

FAQ
Why donate to HOHI?
HOHI is managed by a great team of volunteers and has only one part-time paid office administrator and one part-time project manager. With low overheads of 10% for administration and 7.5% for compliance, HOHI ensures that 82.5% reaches the children and women in need.
HOHI also provides the possibility of contact with your sponsor child through letter writing or a video connection. Some sponsors also join a team that visits the various projects.
Would my donation be tax-deductible?
Tax deductible receipts for gifts of $2 or more will be issued by Global Development Group for GDG/HOHI partnered projects. Excess funds may be directed to another approved project activity.
Homes of Hope International is a partner for Projects in India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, with Global Development Group (ABN 57 102 400 993).
Won’t we always have the poor with us? How can my donation possibly make a difference?
The problem of world poverty is enormous and can often seem unconquerable. Looking at the overwhelming nature of world poverty can be discouraging.
However, by approaching the problem one child at a time, lives can be saved. By sponsoring a child today, you are giving hope to one person, helping take away their suffering and offering them a better life. We change the world one person at a time.
How long will my child sponsorship last?
Children will remain in a HOHI sponsorship programme until they turn 18, or are adopted, or until we find foster care for them, or until they graduate from college or with other qualifications and can be employed.
We understand that sometimes the financial situation of a sponsor changes, and they are no longer able to continue sponsoring a HOHI child. If your financial situation as a sponsor changes, we ask that you contact us as soon as possible.
Can I correspond with my sponsor child?
Your letters are most welcome. Please contact the HOHI office for more information if you would like to write a letter to your sponsor child.
Aren’t I already giving to the poor through the taxes I pay to the Australian government?
In 2026–27, the Australian government will spend about $5.2 billion on overseas aid. That’s around 63 cents in every $100 of the Federal Budget, or about 0.17% of Australia’s Gross National Income (GNI). The internationally agreed target is 0.7% of GNI, so Australia gives about a quarter of that and ranks among the lowest of the wealthy OECD donor nations.
Even if the government met that target, it would not be enough to end poverty. We need your help to break the cycle of poverty.
