Bangladesh is a densely populated country of 165 million people. Dhaka has a population of 21 million and is very vulnerable to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Millions live in overcrowded slums with poor health facilities.
Many people live hand to mouth each week and have few resources to call upon. The poorer communities have very poor hygiene practices and it is feared COVID-19 could spread very quickly. There are few “safety nets” for anyone.
HOHI is providing emergency packs for widows who have lost their jobs, are vulnerable, and are at high risk of contracting COVID-19. Relief packs comprise face masks, hand sanitiser (while available), soap, and washing powder, 5kg rice, 1 litre of oil, 2kg dahl, salt, and eggs.
